SANCAL, a Spanish furniture company, entered the South China market for the first time and partnered with PP Design Gallery, the first international design-focused gallery in South China. On March 17, 2018, SANCAL and three Spanish designers presented their creative processes to the audience and demonstrated contemporary Spanish design.

SANCAL started its business by designing classical palace chairs, and has kept pace with the times for 40 years, becoming the leading brand of contemporary furniture. It strives to create simple, vibrant, multifunctional and sustainable home accessories. SANCAL adheres to the sustainable cycle in the production process, and manufactures all products in Spain.

Guillermo Marqueo-Sancal, the brand representative for SANCAL Asia Pacific, spoke to the audience about SANCAL’s brand history and design philosophy, and displayed the company’s design items in the PP Design Gallery. SANCAL desires that its products transcend the notion of “fitting into a space.” Instead, their products should endure the test of time and define their unique place.

Among the three designers are Eduardo Villalon and Alberto Sanchez, both of MUT Design, and Isaac Pineiro, an industrial designer. MUT, founded in 2010 by Alberto Sánchez, is a multidisciplinary product design studio. Isaac has designed for well-known companies like Nutella, Lavander, and Sagen Ceramics. He is the designer of SANCAL’s most renowned items, such as Elephant piers, Silla 40 dining chairs, and Tartana sound-absorbing panels.

Three designers offered their thoughts and cases of collaboration with the audience and systematically explained the creative concepts of “transforming simple everyday necessities into emotional design cues” through the fabrication of handcrafted furniture models using interactive linkages. Customers are moved by the quality of life provided by the thoughtful design.

The PP Design Gallery is situated in Shenzhen’s most creative art and culture zone, OCT Loft. It is the first design art gallery in South China that focuses on contemporary international design. The gallery assembles innovative design firms from around the globe and promptly displays the most popular international design products. This design salon, presented in partnership with SANCAL, is to express the principles of modern international design, share international trends of furniture design industry and provide more modern concepts to the Chinese furniture market.
